Member reductions at BWEA events - change of policy

As of 1st January 2008, the reduced member rate to attend or exhibit at BWEA events will only be offered to Sponsoring and Company level members of the Association.

BWEA is nearly 30 years old and about to enter a fourth decade championing the wind industry. It is also four years since we began championing the wave and tidal stream energy sector. Together, these technologies are required to generate the overwhelming majority of the 35% of the UK’s electricity which will need to be sourced from renewable energy if we are to make a serious contribution to the wider EU 20% renewable energy target by 2020.

In response to the maturing of our industry and the growing responsibility on our shoulders to meet the energy and climate demands of the future, it has been necessary for BWEA to restructure to enable us to prepare for the next decade. Our publication, BWEA Powering Ahead, highlights the renewed strategic focus and the gathering momentum in our policy work. We hope you have already started to notice the improvements. However, we have challenging targets and ambitious plans, and to resource these initiatives it has been necessary to restructure the membership benefits and fee schedule.

We have been listening carefully to members and have worked hard to consider and devise a membership structure and associated package of benefits that will ensure our resource base can continue to provide quality products and services. 

Under the new structure, Correspondent Members will be eligible for all correspondence based benefits such as Real Power, e-news, the Members Only Area at www.bwea.com and email circulars. They will also have access to networking events and seminars such as BWEA Connect, the BWEA Christmas reception, the Health & Safety Seminar and the AGM, but will not be eligible to serve on the policy-influencing support groups and will no longer receive discounts at BWEA ticketed events or exhibitions.

We very much hope you take the opportunity to engage with our support groups to influence policy formulation and join our growing programme of annual events at the best possible rate by remaining or joining BWEA at a Sponsoring or Company level member.
